"tract (flood lines)" consists of four discrete linear acrylic tubes filled with sand, positioned on the four buttresses surrounding the exhibition space at the National Building Arts Center in Sauget, IL—a site historically used as a sand bunker for a steel foundry. Each tube contains sand poured to mark the height of a historic flood crest at the exact location of the exhibition, situated along the Mississippi River floodplain.
The work is part of Lived In at NON STNDRD, an exhibition showcasing site-based and durational works that respond to the site’s history and context, including the National Building Arts Center’s extensive collection of architectural artifacts and materials related to the built environment.
